There Are No Reasons To Worry When We Remember Scripture

When the news cycle and world events have us worrying about what can happen next, it is a clear sign that we have not placed our hope and belief on scripture and He who inspired it. It is easy to give way to the many headline stories and information that is being made public, but regardless of the situations God is in control.

When the waves rolled and the disciples were in a fishing boat in the middle of a storm, they were afraid. They knew that the storm was real and that the winds and waves were picking up to a level that made them feel uncomfortable. They were very distressed that they decided to wake up Jesus and tell him their worries. Jesus rebuked the storm and the storm listened.

When the Isralites were escaping Egypt, they were on their way to the promised land but were prevented from reaching the land due to a sea named the Red Sea. Looking at their predicament, the Israelites felt worried that their whole escape plan may not work out since there was a big sea that was preventing their advancement. They looked towards Moses who looked towards God to deliver them. God parted the Red Sea in two and allowed them to pass through it.

There are multiple examples where the God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit allow us to comprehend that our God is a way maker. Jesus stated, “I am the truth, the way, and the life.” The storm and the sea were told to obey the Lord and they did. He created a way where there seemed no way. They kept their peoples’ lives intact.

Why then should believers fear when it appears that the waves are growing stronger or the storm is getting heavier. Does not Jesus command us and instructs us on what to do concerning these events?

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” – Matthew 6:25-34

God gave divine inspiration to Matthew among the other apostles. Here Luke repeats what Matthew stated in Matthew 6:25-34.

“Then Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body what you will wear.” – Luke 12:22

With this repetition between two different apostles, God is letting us know not to let anything shake us. Not to let any event make us distraught or afraid because He is in control. He created the world and everything in it. He gives sun light to the righteous and the wicked alike. He provides to both the good and the bad. However, if we truly love Him, we must follow his commandments and love Him.
