Psalm 91 Illustrates the LORD’s Refuge For Us
While times can become difficult, there is a need to trust in the One who holds everything together. The LORD created the universe and is able to defend us and protect us. While there are many uncertainties in these times, we need to make sure that our focus is on the Creator and not on the things around us that are distracting us. Instead of going through this time with anxiety and depression, we can choose to be proactive and praise the LORD through the storm.
There are many uncertainties at the moment, but if we continue to focus on the will of the LORD, we are able to find comfort. Those who trust in the LORD will renew their strength and fly on wings like eagles. We are able to continue because the LORD knows that we are able to continue through His strength and his renovation in our life. It is important that we take notice of this and attempt to establish a connection and relationship with the Creator so that we can see the events through a different lens. Instead of anxiety and panic, we should focus on the love that He provides for us throughout.
David describes this comfort in the LORD in Psalm 91 where he describes the protection that occurs when the LORD is with us.
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my GOD, in whom I trust.’ For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.” – Psalm 91: 1-3
If we have the protection of the LORD and dwell in his shelter, we are covered by the presence of the LORD. This presence is able to cast a shadow signifying his greatness. We are covered and protected. He is a fortress and refugee. Not simply a castle with protection, but a fortress that protects us and provides safety in difficult times. A refuge from the evils and mockeries of those that come against us. The LORD is able to deliver us from any trap set against us and against any disease that attempts to hurt us. We are covered and protected in our fortress who is the LORD.
We must have the faith that David symbolized throughout his encounters with difficulties. We have to be able to see beyond the immediate and attempt to see events and circumstances as opportunities for the LORD to help us and change our ways. The word of the LORD is a shelter that allows us to be protected and comforted through trials, tribulations, and afflictions.
