Finding Living Water
“O GOD, you are my GOD; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands.” – Psalm 63: 1-4
Sometimes the world feels like a desert where there is no living water. There is the physical water that allows us to be quenched from thirst, but there is a spiritual need that also feels like a spiritual thirst. There is a need to feel the beauty and strength and security of the Creator. Like walking through a desert at the time of greatest heat, there is an increased need for the refreshing water.
This strong need for the word of the LORD is seen daily. Whether we acknowledge it deep down inside of us or we profess it, it is there. There is a spiritual need in each of us to know the LORD and his purpose and meaning for our lives. Psalm 63 relates to this spiritual need for the LORD. The LORD is the only source of living water that refreshes our spirit and allows us to feel replenished. As an individual in a desert, the possibility of finding a spring of water or a water source provides hope in the ability to continue through the journey.
