The LORD Defends His People
“For this says the LORD to the house of Israel:
‘Seek me and live; but do not seek Bethel, and do not enter into Gilgal or cross over to Beersheba; for Gilgal shall surely go into exile and Bethel shall come to nothing.” – Amos 5:4-5
“They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks the truth.” – Amos 5:10
“Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the LORD, the GOD of hosts, will be with you, as you have said. Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the LORD, the GOD of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.” – Amos 5:14-15
While there may be struggles and difficulties, the LORD is faithful to those who take His word and apply His principles to our lives. He is a strong and mighty defender who does not allow His people to suffer. He is there to protect them at all times. Though there may be times were it appears that the wicked are able to attack, the attacks are destroyed through the shield of the LORD.
Our trust should not be any material item but should be in the LORD who forgives and replenishes us. The LORD will protect those who are close to Him and allow them to be content. We are instructed to seek good and not evil in order to be able to continue and live. The LORD is life, and He gives it abundantly if we choose to stay close to His path.
So even through the hate, the LORD is with us and He is the One who must be feared. Believers should stand firm the faith knowing that the LORD is the protector and benefactor. He does not state that the path is an easy path, but it is a path that allows us to be in a close walk with the LORD. Sometimes we are called to his walk, in order, to safeguard us and protect us when we are not able to understand.
