“Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles and the judgments he uttered”- 1 Chronicles 16:9-12

“When you were few in number, of little account, and sojourners in it, wandering from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people, he allowed no one to oppress them; he rebuked kings on their account, saying, “Touch not my anointed ones, do my prophets no harm!” – 1 Chronicles 16: 19-22

1 Chronicles 16:19-22 Commentary Audio

After the Israelites were able to secure the ark of the covenant and place it in a tent, David offered a song of thanks to the LORD. This song is included in 1 Chronicles 16 and in Psalms. The ark that had been outside of the city walls had finally been recovered and the people were able to express their thankfulness. David’s praise shows us how the LORD’s purpose will guide us to accomplish His will and that we need to stay close to the LORD’s statutes.

We are instructed to sing to the LORD and praise Him. He is the Creator, the Redeemer, and the LORD. We are instructed to rejoice and feel joy in our hearts because we have a mighty King. We are instructed to seek his strength and His presence continually. These are the words of praise of an individual who demonstrated tremendous faith in the LORD. He has seen the miracles and judgments uttered, and He stands praising the LORD for all His actions.

He recounts the history of how while they attempted to oppress them, the LORD delivered them from oppression and rebuked those who attempted to touch them or do them harm. The LORD is our protection and protects us. The LORD is mighty and He keeps us as a shepherd that guides us to His purpose. After the Israelites secured the ark of the covenant, they had secured a very precious ark that was part of worship. They had set their purpose in the LORD and continue His will. As they secured the ark and allowed it to return through effort and dedication, they are joyful as they see the work of the LORD.
