Hope in the LORD Before the Day of the LORD

“Blessed be the GOD and Father of our LORD Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by GOD’s power are being guarded through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” – 1 Peter: 3-5

What does it mean to be born again? This is a question that many have asked when considering the Christian faith. What does it mean to be born again? How can one be born again? This happens through faith and belief in the LORD. Being born again, means we no longer are slaves to sin and to our worldly desires that attempt to take the center stage in our lives. We allow the LORD to guide us and allows us the ability to contribute in a manner that does not gratify ourselves but the LORD.

This allows us to understand that the Earth is not our home. It is a place where we are placed only to allow us the ability to understand the importance of our salvation and attempt to reconcile the differences that exist within our worldly desires and that of salvation which is for eternity. This inheritance is imperishable because it does not get destroyed, burned, or plundered. It is a salvation that persists and lasts for all of eternity. This salvation is an abstract concept that may not be easy to grasp from a worldly perspective.

However, this salvation does not occur as a result of any of our efforts, but through the grace of our Heavenly Father. A grace that transcends our understanding and our work. Although, we are known as followers of Christ by following the commandments, salvation is a gift that is given by the LORD. A gift that is freely given when we accept it. It is always there ready to be received. Similar to the life that we are given, there was nothing that we did to deserve us being born. When we were being born into this life, we were given life by the LORD. Similar to life is grace being given by the LORD in order that we may not only have life in this world, but have abundant, eternal, and unfading life in the next.

When will we know, see, understand, and presence this salvation? Peter by inspiration of the Holy Spirit allows us to understand that the salvation will be revealed in the last time. What does Peter mean when he states “the last time”. The end of the ages, when the fig tree is ready to give fruit metaphorically, or when everything is brought under completion. We will know if we accepted that salvation that was freely given or if we refused it.

There is still time for you to obtain salvation if you have not obtained it or if you have chosen other paths that have let you stray from the LORD’s salvation for you. It is not too late yet.
