Spirit of Prophesy

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.” – Joel 2:28

The LORD tells us ahead of time all that is to occur throughout history. There are no surprises to the One who wrote history and everything that stands to this day. While we may see the headlines and fret at events, we are instructed that all things that shall come to pass shall come to pass. Instead of worrying about events, we are to remain steadfast in the promises offered.

The LORD states that He will pour His spirit on sons and daughters to prophesy. What shall it mean to prophesy? To some it may mean the ability to speak about future events that are yet to occur, to others it may mean proclaiming the good news of the Gospel, redemption, repentance, and salvation. To others it may simply mean the ability to decipher meaning in scripture or in events. This shall be something that many will be able to do.

Why is prophesying mentioned as one of the things that many individuals will do? Could it be that it is in preparation for something greater than we have seen in our lifetimes or simply for the redemption and salvation of those who are not saved? Could it be an opportunity to come to terms with the reality of our lives and the reality of creation?

Only time will tell, but the important takeaway is that it is important to shift our focus from worldliness to the importance of the LORD while there is still time.
