Praising the LORD

“Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise him in the heights! Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his hosts! Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars! Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens! Let them praise the name of the LORD! For he commanded and they were created. And he established them forever and ever; he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away.” – Psalm 148: 1-6

Psalm 148:1-6 Audio Commentary

Through Psalm 148 we are able to see that one of the important objectives of creation is to praise the LORD. We are able to see that King David was able to note that everything that was created was for a reason and that reason was to be praising the LORD. He was able to see that everything that was breathing, that was created, that had a presence in creation had to be able to praise the LORD.

Why praise the LORD as the primary objective? Why are we to give thanks to the LORD for having created us? We are allowing our gratitude and our understanding to know that the LORD who created us has allowed us the ability to give thanks. But this is not a superficial thanks, it is deeper than this. It is an acknowledgment that we are created beings that were created for a purpose. That purpose is to praise the LORD in what we do.

There may be many things we can do or be, but in each and every instance the most important action is to praise the LORD. King David lists creation from the heavens, to the skies, to the water on Earth. Everything was created with a purpose. Therefore, what the LORD has decided or commanded will stand according to King David and according to multiple cross reference scriptures. There is nothing that has not already been written and the LORD has given a decree that shall not pass away.
