Blessings and Promises for Jacob

“But now hear, O Jacob my servant, Israel whom I have chosen! Thus says the LORD who made you, who formed you from the womb and will help you; Fear not, O Jacob my servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen. For I will pour water on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.” – Isaiah 44: 1-3

When Jacob was chosen, it was not the individual Jacob that was chosen to lead. It was his people and the community that he would be a part of that would lead. They were selected to allow for the power of the LORD to be seen. So great was the love of the LORD for Jacob and his descendants that there was a promise of allowing the dry ground to have water poured over it.

Similar to the story of Moses being able to place a spring of water from a rock by the grace of the LORD, so does it promise the dry ground to pour out water. This is the importance of having faith in the things that are not seen. When we are able to understand that our needs are met and will be met even when it appears that there are difficulties, we are able to have tranquility.

The promise was that they will have water on the dry ground. Meaning the dry ground that seems like a place where nothing may spring out of, will not only spring water. Any land that has water has the potential to have vegetation and crops growing from it. It is from water that most of life derives or is satiated from. The plants, the crops, the livestock, and even for cooking. Everything is provided simply by the importance of the water that is provided. From this, we are able to understand that there is a promise that is fulfilled and will allow us to understand things that we do not yet understand.

This was just one of the promises spoken in Isaiah 44:1-3. The next promise state that the LORD will pour out His Spirit on Jacob’s offspring. This means that they would accomplish prophecy among many important actions that go along with having the Spirit. The third promise is the promise of a blessing which is the ability to have good added to each one’s life.
