Psalm 83 and 92
“O GOD, do not keep silence; do not hold your peace or be still, O GOD! For behold, your enemies make an uproar; those who hate you have raised their heads. They lay crafty plans against your people; they consult together against your treasured ones.” – Psalm 83: 1-3
“For behold, your enemies, O LORD, for behold, your enemies shall perish; all evildoers shall be scattered.” – Psalm 92:9
During David’s time, there were certain difficulties that arose due to the hostility of a few nations against the LORD’s treasured people. While not all the inhabitants of these nations shared the views, the leaders took action against David and his people. Through this they were destined to be defeated. David was able to gather his people and they were able to fight against those nations that had hostilities against Israel.
There are times when nations have hostilities that do not make sense. Instead of uniting under the banner of love and peace, they want to make sure that there is continued strife. Although not all inhabitants share this belief, they are instructed in sharing the belief. We know that no matter the amount of crafty plans that arise against David’s people, the plans will not prosper.
Through these difficulties, Israel was able to grow and become stronger than before. It was not seen as a difficult moment, but a moment of strength and courage. It allows us to reflect on past history and how it can help us remember times when lessons are able to be learned and people become stronger.
