Ezekiel’s Call for Purification
“I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse.” – Ezekiel 36: 25
The LORD states in Ezekiel that He understands that Israel would fall and go after idols. Nothing surprises the LORD and allows for us to understand that there is nothing new under the sun. The LORD understands that idolatry is one of the biggest obstacles that prevent individuals from returning to the LORD.
Through countless examples of iniquity that existed over time, GOD gives us opportunities to change and begin a new path clean and protected under Him. Ezekiel was told to communicate this message to Israel as they were going after idols and worshipping things that were made by the LORD instead of the LORD.
Through the logic derived from the situations of Israel, the LORD provided for Israel as long as it maintained a close relationship with GOD. They were to keep Moses’ law or the Ten Commandments and abstain from sinning. As Israel departed from the commandments to idolatry of other nations, they began to have difficulties until they regained their footing after a prophet was sent to help them change their ways. Ezekiel is one of the prophets that is instructed to keep the path of Israel straight and to turn away from sin in order to become purified.
There is nothing that cannot be purified by the LORD. He offers purification to those who seek Him with their whole being instead of going after trivialities and vanities. He allows for individuals to return even after sinning as long as they repent of their sins and turn from their sin.
