The Light and Truth
“Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!
Then I will go to the altar of GOD, to GOD my exceeding joy,
and I will praise you with the lyre, O GOD, my GOD.
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in GOD; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my GOD.” – Psalm 43: 3-5
Bible Verse Audio:
The words of David illustrate the importance that GOD’s word is for us. David was able to illustrate the importance of being truthful and being able to see the light of the LORD. These two things are able to guide us into following the ways of the LORD into the holy dwelling. The LORD is able to guide us to the place of His presence. Opposed to these two positive descriptions, the opposite characteristics of these two descriptors would be darkness and lies. These two lead away from the LORD.
David made sure to stay close to the LORD by seeking the LORD’s light and truth. This allowed him the possibility to continue despite the numerous setbacks that he went through. David was able to believe the promises of the LORD in the darkness that he was experiencing and was able to walk through with the light that the LORD promises. We are told multiple times that GOD is able to provide and set us on secure places. He provides a way for us to continue learning and strengthening in our faith for the LORD. Similarly, we as believers are able to experience that same light through the darkness that will guide us to the LORD’s promised land and presence.
GOD’s promises are truth, and they are promises that are kept by the true GOD. We are able to keep GOD’s light and truth as our guide through any time whether there is joy or difficulty. We are able to continue moving forward because He provides the light that shines despite the darkness. While the darkness may grow, we are told in Psalms by David that the darkness is not dark to the LORD. This means that the LORD can do all things even making the darkness light. We are able to stand firm in His promises and continue with firm faith.
