A Psalm of David: Righteousness
“But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield.” – Psalm 5: 11
We learn that David in this Psalm makes a distinction between those that are righteous from those that are wicked. Similar to other verses or to the words of the Prophets, we see the two different paths that individuals can take. In one path, is the walk with GOD which allows us to live a life a righteousness, obeying the word of GOD, having faith in the promises of GOD, and being able to know that GOD is allowing us the ability to learn everyday from His word. We strive to be righteous. We strive to honor GOD. We strive to follow the Ten Commandments.
The other path is the path of destruction which causes people to stray from the path of GOD. GOD is able to provide for everything that is needed here on earth. We are not meant to stray for other paths that only cause pain and destruction. We are able to see the distinction made by David and then continue to see the great things that believers have when walking with righteousness. We are aloud to rejoice, to sing with joy, and we have a protection that is from GOD. We are reminded that like Abraham, GOD covers us believers with a shield. We are at a joy that is not like any joy from the world.
We know that GOD is able to provide us not only what we need but also our spiritual needs through the word of GOD, the Ten Commandments, through faith, and through Jesus Christ, who saved us and has given us eternal life. We are able to be at peace knowing that GOD is providing and watching for believers through all the difficulties that exist.
