GOD Almighty’s Steadfast Love for David
“Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your face, who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted. For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted. For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one, and said: ‘I have granted one chosen from the people. I have found David, my servant; with my holy oil I have anointed him, so that my hand shall be established with him; my arm also shall strengthen him; the wicked shall not humble him. I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him.”
We learn that when David is selected by GOD Almighty to be the king of the people in Israel, we learn that GOD Almighty had decided to forsake Saul. This was due to Saul’s inability to obey GOD Almighty. King David decides to follow GOD Almighty even when being righteous leads to persecution from Saul and the men of Saul. For this, GOD Almighty sees David’s faithfulness to GOD Almighty despite the circumstances. For Christian believers, this should remind us that GOD Almighty is greater than the circumstances around us and can deliver us from our difficulties.
We learn that when David is able to finally celebrate after having been anointed king, defeated the surrounding hostile nations in Israel, and was able to take the ark of the covenant to the City of David on Mount Zion, we learn that David is able to praise GOD Almighty and celebrate with the people. We learn that GOD Almighty is able to speak to David through the prophet Nathan who tells David about the covenant that GOD Almighty was going to have with David. Because David was faithful to GOD Almighty similar to the manner that Abraham and Moses were faithful to GOD Almighty, David is given a house in the sense that David would be allowed to have kings under his lineage.
We learn that this is consistent with the promises that GOD Almighty tells Abraham saying that out of his lineage of Isaac and Israel, they would have kings at some point in history. We learn that the people requested to have kings because they wanted to be like the nations and GOD Almighty allows them to have a king. We learn that Saul starts well but gives himself over to jealousy and envy against David. GOD Almighty sees this and eventually brings judgment against Saul. We learn that through David, the lineage of Israel would continue to have kings.
This promise is consistent with the prophecy and blessing of Jacob to Judah telling that out of Judah there would arise kings and the scepter would not depart from their hand and feet. They would have a throne and an everlasting king. This is conditional upon the people behaving and obeying GOD Almighty. We learn that David is a faithful individual that loves GOD Almighty with all his heart, mind, soul, strength, and might. For this reason, GOD Almighty decides to give the people a great king through David that would be known not only in Israel but all over the world. We know that while David is a great king, he is not the everlasting king prophesied by Jacob to his children.
We learn that the everlasting king is King Jesus Christ who arises from the lineage of Joseph. We learn that King Jesus Christ is both Son of GOD and Son of Man. We learn that Joseph is a descendant of David. We learn that GOD Almighty created David. We learn that King Jesus Christ is able to fulfill this prophecy and able to rule with a rod of iron from the moment of the resurrection and is seated that the Right Hand Side of GOD Almighty until GOD Almighty sends King Jesus Christ to earth to judge the wicked.
